We have spent a week in this vibrant and varied city. We have been living and working from a tiny room in a quaint old hotel in The Fisherman’s Wharf area. We’ve been exploring mainly on foot, huffing and puffing up those legendary hills, also taking the occasional Cable Car. The Cable Cars are great fun and quite cranky, it’s like riding an ancient fairground ride and hoping the mechanics aren’t going to give out on you!
We have also been on a bit of a ‘Vertigo’ trail, one of my favourite Hitchcock movies was set here. The grand mansion in the slideshow is where Madeleine lived, and the mission graveyard is where Carlotta was buried.
One of the most inspiring things for me was the murals in the Mission district. They were painted by women in the 70’s to celebrate family, community and political action. Some of the older ones remained and are well preserved and more modern ones have been added.
